Support and Maintenance of Mailing Machinery.

Descriptions

DVLA required hardware support and maintenance for its entire mailing fleet. This compromises a mailing machine population of 12 in-line systems, 8 on the Ty-Felin site and 4 on the Morriston site. The 12 systems consist of 4 high speed mailers, 4 mid range mailers and 4 card mailing systems.The current batch of high speed mailers are primarily for the processing of one-up, two-up continuous stationery (A4 and A3) which is cut, folded and then inserted into an envelope with up to 6 inserting modules. The systems are also fitted with the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR), linear and 2-D barcode reader facilities to enable the grouping of prime documents, ink marking, displaced stacking and to selectively enclose inserts.The mid range mailing systems process one-up and two-up continuous and cross fold stationery. These systems are also fitted with linear and 2-D barcode facilities.The department produces a number of high volume outputs on a variety of different stationery types. The main transactions are:— Electronic Vehicle Licensing (EVL) — 20,206,434 tax discs per year scheduled to be abolished in October 2014;— Payable Orders (PO) — 2,468,512 (likely to double in the next year);— Photocard on Licence (POL) — 9,854,467;— Harmonised Registration Certificate (V5C) — 16,554,142.The Plastic card mailers process the mailing of polycarbonate cards and the paper counterparts. These systems are also fitted with integrity units, verifying integrity of card and match pre and post card attachment.
