Swansea- Transportation and Development Study for Pontarddulais

The City and County of Swansea has been successful in attracting funding under the Rural Development Plan for Wales to appoint a multi disciplinary team to prepare an integrated and comprehensive Transportation and Development Study for Pontarddulais.Pontarddulais is a small former industrial community, located to the north west of Swansea with a small district shopping centre along the A48 which runs east to west through the town. The study is required to be a two-stage approach. Stage 1 will undertake a detailed transport appraisal to fully assess the existing transport infrastructure, investigate traffic flows and examine the potential for sections of new road to serve key development sites, both north and south of the A48. This stage will provide details of possible routes, costs and implications of the routes. Progression to Stage 2 will be dependant on the outcome of Stage 1, and a discrete decision by the client body.If stage 1 of the study concludes that improved transportation links for Pontarddulais are desirable and feasible, then the second stage of the study will be to consider deliverability. This will include the realistic assessment of public sector funding and private sector development options to enable such infrastructure to be delivered. A key element of the study will include full public consultation on the conclusions of the assessment and proposed actions.
