Tender for for the Conservation and Restoration of two historic ships, The Arctic Corsair and The Spurn Light Vessel.
Descriptions
Hull, Yorkshire's Maritime City is a £30m regeneration project to reinterpret the city's maritime past, using an extraordinary resource historic buildings, collections, ships and people to tell the story of Hull's contribution to the past and highlight the City's maritime future. The project is jointly funded by Hull City Council (HCC) and the National Lottery Heritage Fund. A key element of this project will be the conservation, renovation and refurbishment of two of Hull's most iconic ships, The Arctic Corsair and The Spurn Light Vessel. HCC is now looking to appoint a contractor to undertake the sensitive conservation work required to ensure that these ships can continue to tell their stories for the next hundred years and more. The Arctic Corsair, the last of the deep water sidewinder trawlers, was saved through a volunteer initiative in the 1990's and since then has been owned by HCC supported by volunteers. In August the Corsair was towed to the Siemens' dock. After restoration works she will be returned to a purpose built dry dock and visitor building on the river Hull at the North End Shipyard. The Spurn Light Vessel is currently moored in Hull Marina and will return to the marina after works are complete. Full specifications and drawings can be found in the tender documents. The total anticipated value of the works for the restoration and refurbishment of BOTH vessels is approximately £2.5m. The Authority proposes to enter into one Contract for a period of 20 months with the successful Tenderer (Service Provider), for the works to collect, refurbish/restore/repair the vessels in accordance with the tender Specification, and to return the finished vessels to their respective locations at Hull Marina (Spurn Light Ship), and the North End Ship Yard (NESY), River Hull, Kingston-Upon-Hull, England.
