Lot 1 - Charpy Impact Testing Machine with 300J Impact Energy CapacityTo achieve the objectives of the Materials Research Centre of the College of Engineering, it is essential to have the ability to characterise a variety of materials (metals, polymers, composites) on their behaviour during Impact Testing. To this end, a minimum 300J Capacity Charpy Impact Testing machine compliant to ISO 148-1 Specification has been identified as vital to the Centre’s activities. Funding for the purchase of this equipment will be made through the WEFO grant. A bench-top impact testing machine has previously been widely for teaching purposes in Swansea University’s College of Engineering. However, this instrument is first non-compliant to International standards (ie either Charpy or Izod) and is now obsolete and the purchase of a state-of-the-art replacement, comprising standardised testing according to International norms, enhanced safety controls and more user friendly operation would represent a valuable asset to ongoing programmes of teaching as well as research and development within the Materials Research Centre of the College of Engineering.Lot 2 – 1x Environmental Chamber or Tube Furnace and 2x High Temperature FurnacesFurnaces are to be installed as part of the heat treatment facility in the Materials Research Centre of the College of Engineering. They will be utilised for a wide range of test materials (metals, polymers, composites) with different heat treatment processes, controlled heating rate, cooling rate and good access for quenching. Specification has been identified as vital to the Centre’s activities. Funding for the purchase of this equipment will be made through a WEFO grant. Quality, reliability and safety are key aspects for them to run effectively in a busy multi-user facility.
