Tender for the provision of Maintenance Painting to External Surfaces of the Cleddau Bridge

As part of Pembrokeshire County Council's on-going programme of bridge maintenance, the Cleddau Bridge requires maintenance painting to almost the whole of the box girder structure. The Cleddau Bridge is situated four miles east of Milford Haven and carries the A477 over the estuary. The bridge is a continuous all welded trapezoidal steel box girder and is supported on six reinforced concrete piers and two abutments. The 213 metre main span incorporates a 137 metre central suspended section. The total length of the steel bridge is approximately 820 metres.All of the pier top and abutment bearings together with a complete 35m section at the southern end of the structure have recently been repainted, under a separate contract. The works required within this contract includes for the maintenance repainting of the remainder of the bridge structure; a length of approximately 784m, encompassing the whole of the external surface of the box girder. The contract period is 35 weeks which may be split over two painting seasons. The provisional start date is 4th May 2010.
