In summary this tender is for two six degrees of freedom (DOF) serial robots which will be used for non-contact inspection, and also for one six DOF serial robot which will be used for object recognition/manipulation based on contact sensing, to include linear track for mounting the arms on, as described in the technical specification section — part 2, section 1.Budget of approximately GBP 150 000-GBP 200 000.This is to be funded by the HiTech Rail project which is an ERDF-funded initiative aimed at enabling West Midlands SMEs to develop innovative rail products. The project is based in the Centre for Railway Research and Education at the University of Birmingham.
