Tender for Workplace Active Travel Programme — T ENV16-15.

Descriptions

The Public Health Authority (PHA), Derry City and Strabane District Council and the Western Health and Social Care Trust have come together to form a partnership aimed at encouraging staff within each of their respective organisations to engage and participate in an active travel programme. This programme aims to make a strategic intervention to promote active travel using the power of the public sector. The programme will be driven by a Strategic Partnership (SP) through a 3 year engagement with the 3 sponsoring partner organisations of the SP, namely PHA, Derry City and Strabane District Council and WHSCT.A programme of workplace travel behaviour change activities will take place at a number of sites across the Derry City and Strabane District Council area. This initiative will also link with PHA's plans to promote the health and well being of the workforce.PHA Context:The PHA seeks to improve health and well being by a range of methods, including by creating an environment that promotes a physically active lifestyle. It is working to achieve the Department for Health, Social Services and Public Safety's ‘Fitter Future for All’ a 10 year framework to reduce overweight and obesity, which seeks a 3 % reduction in obesity in children and a 2 % reduction in overweight and obesity in children by 2022.PHA also seeks to promote the Chief Medical Officer's Guidelines on Physical Activity, i.e. that adults should aim to be active daily, and over a week, activity should add up to at least 150 minutes (2½ hours) of moderate intensity activity in bouts of 10 minutes or more. The Active Travel Strategy, launched in January 2013, seeks to encourage the population to make healthy travel choices, thereby reducing the risk of overweight and obesity related diseases, and improving health and well being by creating an environment that promotes a physically active lifestyle and a healthy diet.
