The development of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct & Canal world heritage site website and digital kiosks
Descriptions
Wrexham County Borough Council on behalf of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal Visitor Management Steering Group is seeking to appoint a company to rebuild or remodel the existing www.pontcysyllte-aqueduct.co.uk website and ensure that it links or runs in tandem with the five digital tourism kiosks within various locations in the County.Following a successful award of Regional Tourism Engagement (RTEF) funding from Welsh Government, Wrexham County Borough Council and Denbighshire County Council in partnership with the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct & Canal World Heritage Site Steering Group wish to commission a new visitor and community website for the site.Taking in 11-miles of outstanding natural beauty, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct & Canal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009 and has since developed into an increasingly popular visitor destination with an international appeal. Our existing website was built and designed in 2010-11, however despite being well visited, has proved difficult to manage and maintain due to the incompatibility with several common web browsers and the poor functionality of our existing editing software, Umbraco. There are also two relatively successful Facebook and Twitter feeds where the majority of interaction currently takes place with visitors and those with an interest in the site – both of which can be found @PontcysyllteSince 2011, feedback from visitors and the community has given sufficient reason to tailor a new website to be fully reflective of not only the visitor offer across the full 11-mile stretch of site, but also to enable more community content, educational information and history of the site. Likewise, the current site has information, content and listings for business across the wider North East Wales area (outside of the World Heritage Site buffer zone) and we would look to include information about Points of Interest, food & drink, accommodation and attractions within the 11-mile site only – with reference to the North East Wales, Clywdian Range & Dee Valley AONB and Canal & River Trust websites to signpost visitors to attractions in the wider area. Finally, a new brand toolkit was developed in 2015 by the Consultancy, Hotrod Design, that has presented partners responsible for managing the site with a fresh new toolkit which will be compatible across different digital and printed platforms – with the ability to give the site an agreed, uniform identity. We would therefore look for this new site to be designed using these guidelines (included with this tender document as a PDF).NOTE: To register your interest in this notice and obtain any additional information please visit the Sell2Wales Web Site at http://www.sell2wales.gov.uk/Search/Search_Switch.aspx?ID=38468.The buyer has indicated that it will accept electronic responses to this notice via the Postbox facility.
