The procurement and support of the Small Arms Fused Sight (SAFS).

Descriptions

Image intensifiers. Weapons, ammunition and associated parts. Nightglasses. Telescopic sights. Under the Small Arms Fused Sight (SAFS) Project the UK MOD has a requirement for a Fused Night Sight for use on 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm Assault Rifles which will provide both Image Intensification (Near Infrared (NIR) and Thermal Imager (Long Wave Infrared (LWIR) capabilities in one single body.To provide the Potential Provider with guidance on the desired capability of the system the Key Requirements have been summarised below:1. The System shall integrate with but not interfere with the functions of the host Weapon System;2. The System shall not interfere with the functions of the host Weapon System;3. The System shall be able to be fitted in-line and in front of the day sight without the need to change the position of the day sight;4. The System shall be able to be mounted to a weapon accessory rail conforming to Rail Standard NATO STANAG 4694;5. The System shall remain fully functional after exposure to the operational shock profile of the host Weapon System;6. The System shall allow the User to recognise a man-size target (1.8 m x 0.5 m) in low light levels (<1mLux) out to a minimum range of 400 m;7. The System, in full moonlight, shall achieve a minimum resolution of 1.2c/mrad at 100mlux with 100 % target contrast, equivalent to identifying a human at 150 m;8. The System shall allow the user to switch between the NIR, LWIR and Blend channels without losing previous settings;7. The System shall provide instant and continuous zero parallax between the LWIR and NIR images at all ranges;10. The System shall be operable without any degradation at high light levels of 10 Lux and above. To provide the Potential Provider with additional guidance on the desired capability of the system with regards to lower priority Requirements these have been summarised below:11. The System shall align to the size and role of the host Weapon System having a height of no more than 10 cm, a width of no more than 10 cm, a length of no more than 20 cm and a weight of no more than 1 kg;12. The System shall have a LWIR frame rate of not less than 50 Hz;13. The System shall include a remote control to enable the User to operate the essential functions without moving hands from the firing position;14. The System shall have an interface port to allow the export of ‘real time' imagery;15. The System shall allow the User to select different LWIR modes, such as Black Hot, White Hot and Outline;16. The System shall allow the User to adjust attributes of the displayed image such as Intensity, Contrast, Blend (between LWIR and NIR images);17. The System shall provide a continuous NIR and LWIR image for not less than 6 hours while operating on one set of batteries;18. The System shall provide a continuous NIR image for not less than 12 hours while operating on one set of batteries.
