The authority is seeking to employ an experienced contractor to undertake the significant restoration and conversion of a Grade I Listed Victorian Glasshouse, the restoration and conversion of a second Grade II 1950's aluminium glasshouse into a Community Engagement Centre as well as landscaping works associated to enhance the surrounding precinct and the installation of a new Biomass Boiler. The Temperate House encloses an area of around 4 000 sqm and is the largest remaining Victorian glass house in the UK and was placed on the English Heritage Buildings at Risk register in 2012. The Temperate House was last restored in the late 1970's (completed 1982.)Located within the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, the Temperate House is located alongside one of the great vistas within the Gardens linking the Pagoda to the Palm House and terminating the cross-axis to the Temperate House Gate. The site is within that part of the Gardens defined as the Pagoda Vista Zone in the RBG Kew Site Conservation Plan by Chris Blandford Associates (November 2002) and World Heritage Site Management Plan by Gross Max (2011).Kew is a UNESCO World Heritage Site; a Conservation area designated by the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames; and registered as a Grade I registered Park and Garden of Special Historic Interest. The site lies on grid reference N510 28 55, W017 38.5.
