Tree Clearance Works for Wind Farm Infrastructure

Descriptions

FC Wales will be awarding two contracts for the supply of services to clear approximately 386 hectares of forest crops to facilitate future wind farm developments in forest blocks throughout Wales. These are predominantly young crops that are not deemed economically viable to harvest as average tree sizes have not reached merchantable dimensions. Each contract will comprise one lot. FC Wales will be awarding these contracts as direct contracts to one supplier for each lot for a period of four years. Contractors are free to tender for either one or both lots and FC Wales may award both contracts to one Contractor based on assessment of award criteria. Areas defined for tree clearance for infrastructure under these contracts will generically comprise: 1.Areas restocked for commercial forestry or areas of natural regeneration or checked crops to be cleared for the construction of turbine bases, substations, laydown areas, etc. 2.Linear areas of roadline clearance for 2.1new roadlines, primarily spur roads to turbine locations.2.2road widening to facilitate access of abnormal loads.2.3cable runs adjacent to roads. FC Wales considers these works as ‘site clearance works’ and has no preferred methodology. Contractors therefore need to clearly specify their proposed method of tree clearance within their submissions and arrange to attend site visits to determine the suitability of their proposals. Each Development Area will form a separate schedule to each contract with specific start and completion dates. Works under these contracts are entirely dependent on planning consent for wind farm developments being granted. During the planning phase, modifications to Felling plans are likely to occur which may affect work quantities. FC Wales does not guarantee the quantities throughout the contract period and reserves the right to change quantities for operational reasons. The Contractor will respect that FC Wales considers that time is of the essence with respect to these contracts. You will need to be able to deliver services within the contract schedule periods.
