Descriptions

ISIS is the world's brightest pulsed neutron and muon source and is situated at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (Oxfordshire, UK).It produces neutrons by firing a narrow, high-energy beam of protons at the Target. The neutrons are then slowed down by allowing them to deposit heat in the liquid hydrogen and solid methane moderators (both cryogenically cooled) and then extracted through holes in the reflector.
