Awarded
UKSBSRE150097 - North West England Deep Borehole Project
Descriptions
The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), through its centre/survey the British Geological Survey invites tenders for the provision of drilling to support project monitoring and research activities. The purpose of the project is to improve the understanding of movement of fluids and possible chemical changes in aquifers and overlying strata. It is planned that the work shall be carried out at a site to the east of Blackpool, around Elswick, Lancashire. NGR: 3422 4383 (SD43) (indicative only). At the site, one borehole shall be required to provide: a.Improved understanding of the underlying geology and sandstone aquifer, b.Sample cuttings from the borehole to be sub-sampled and processed, c.Access to the underlying bedrock to enable aquifer properties to be determined by geophysical logging, packer testing, and hydrochemical analyses. d.A completed borehole to be used as a monitoring borehole for scientific purposes. It is planned to drill the borehole from Ground Level to a Total Depth of approximately 500 metres
