Unearthing Our Heritage (Reading the Dean)
Descriptions
The Forestry Commission (as the lead partner of the Foresters’ Forest Heritage Lottery Funded Landscape Partnership Programme in the Forest of Dean) is inviting tenders for the development, implementation and reporting on a programme of archaeological works to support the community exploration of heritage landscapes in the Forest of Dean. The first project is focused on training local people in the basics of archaeological investigation and surveying and then exploring some of the 1700 lidar data points from work undertaken by the Gloucestershire County Council Archaeology Service in the Dean. The second project is about encouraging people to go out and make a photographic record of heritage features in the landscape to identify those sites that are important to the communities and therefore warrant remedial action (undertaken in a separate project). The third project concerns further archaeological investigations which may encompass geophysics, trail trenches/pits to enhance knowledge of the existence and preservation of archaeological remains. Please express your interest in this tender to Sue Middleton at the Coleford office by email or in writing by the 22nd of June 2015 to allow us to notify you of any questions and answers we may receive.
