United Kingdom-East Kilbride: Project management consultancy services

Descriptions

'DFID is planning to provide a new programme of support to South African partner organisations for research on a range of issues linked to global economic governance. This reflects the UK's ongoing policy priority to work with new actors on international development, including South Africa, to promote a better, more effective international and multilateral development system. It recognises that effective global economic governance is an essential part of eradicating global poverty. DFID's investment in this area over the last 2 years has aimed to strengthen the voices of those with the greatest stake in effective pro-poor economic governance, including in the G20, the BRICS and other international fora. It has done so through generating new research relating to the global economic governance agenda, including rigorous analysis of policy options from an African perspective; facilitating new dialogue around this agenda between African policymakers, civil society and academia; and supporting a media and outreach programme to help inform effective policymaking and hold governments to account for the commitments they have made. A new phase of this work will build on these successes and focus clearly on the issues which have most potential to contribute to the achievement of a post-2015 development agenda, and which require innovative action to reach better solutions through regional and global fora. These may include research, dialogues and outreach on issues including global trade policy to support an open international trading system; the conditions for regional economic growth in Africa; improving domestic revenue mobilisation to support development; ensuring global financial regulation supports development in low income countries; and international action to help protect countries against financial and other shocks. The scope of the programme is currently being defined. Once selected, an implementing partner will have a major role in helping set the scope of the work and ensuring it represents the needs and interests of stakeholders including the Government of South Africa, other civil society and academic partners in the region, African and global business leaders, and other G20 members including the UK. It will be essential that such a programme be based on a partnership with an institution or institutions best placed to supply international-level expertise in this field, and with excellent existing relationships with relevant stakeholders.'
