'Approx. 1 000 students. Key aims: Moving and Handling Pre registration Nurse training: As part of their pre-registration course each student undertakes a structured series of sessions each examining the different skills and knowledge needed for successful and safe load handling and moving. Following these sessions the students will practice the skills learned under the direct supervision of a registered practitioner during their placements. For the entirety of their course we consider students to be approaching' competence and requiring supervision from registered practitioners. In theory time the first year Nursing students, from all fields, should study together the principles of assisting and moving individuals and further their knowledge through the safe selection and use of techniques and equipment when dealing with a range of client/patient needs. Throughout their studies in nursing students will study in their field specific groups to apply techniques and explore particular issues that arise in their area of practice. Students will be working to achieve Nursing and Midwifery Council competencies and must meet requirements within 3 component parts' of their programme.'
