Descriptions
'The SoJ Tug Duke of Normandy (DoN), a Damen Shoalbuster 2609 tug built in Holland in 2005, is surveyed and certificated under the Jersey Small Commercial Vessel Work Boat Code (Code) which is enacted by Shipping (Safety Codes) (Jersey) Order 2005 as amended. This Jersey Code effectively extends UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) notice MGN 280 (Small Commercial Vessel and Pilot Boat (SCV) Code) to Jersey vessels. For vessels operating under the Jersey code the designated certifying authority is MECAL Jersey Ltd' who has been appointed by the Minister for Economic Development. MGN 280 outlines the specification and standards that a vessel has to meet and maintain to be allowed to work as a small commercial vessel under the Jersey Registry. Certification issued under this code requires to be renewed every 5 years. This coincides with the code requirement for through survey of hull, shell fittings, external steering and propulsion. At 10 years old the DoN, is required to undertake its 2nd such certification renewal and survey. To fit in with harbour and external commercial charter we would be looking for the vessel to be taken out of service in April 2015 for this project to be undertaken. This fits in with the small window of opportunity between the end of the winter season and the beginning of the summer season starting in May.
