Awarded
Utrasonic Simulation Equipment — Revised Specification.
Descriptions
Introduction to the RequirementsAn ultrasound simulation suite was established at the University of Derby in 2014, simulation has now been integrated fully into curriculum delivery and plays a key role in support for pre-clinical ultrasound skills development. Benefits include, development and assessment of basic image acquisition skills before students are required to scan patients, individualised application specific student learning opportunities, immediate student feedback on their performance (without tutor input), formative and summative assessment tasks and structured learning opportunities where remedial support is needed.UoD are sector leaders and the 1st university worldwide to establish a cloud based platform that allows remote log in to the simulation system. This provides a unique facility for remote off campus access to allow student and mentor review of simulated tutorial material. The functionality offered by a simulation platform enable UoD to provide support for student skills development and assessment from complete novice through to demonstration of competence and review of complex cases. As pressures on clinical departments continue to rise, it is anticipated that the role of simulation will increase significantly for future student cohorts. Expansion of campus based simulation facilities is essential to meet this demand. .
