VEAT Notice Variation to the Construction of Strategic Flood Storage at Weston-super-Mare.

Descriptions

Following a procurement (contract notice reference 2013/S 041-065497) the Council engaged in February 2015 CA Blackwell to undertake works to construct a strategic flood storage solution at Weston-super-Mare. The Council determined that this flood storage solution was required in order to facilitate the planned growth of 6000 new homes, associated schools, community facilities and the development of 40 hectares of employment land adjacent to Weston-super-Mare. The works were let as a single contract with 2 distinct phases. Phase 1 (construction of a superpond) has been completed. Phase 2 involves the creation of a compound channel adjacent to the River Banwell. The subject of this notice is the proposed variation to the above contract in relation to the means of execution of the Phase 2 works. The original scope of Phase 2 envisaged the distribution of excavated material over 3 fields adjacent to the site. Due to the planning requirements the excavated land will now be spread more thinly over a wider area (12 fields as opposed to 3), with a corresponding increase in the value of the total contract to reflect the alteration to the means of execution of the works.
