Water Industry Training and Certification for Regulatory Officers
Descriptions
EA's regulatory officers have a duty to regulate the water industry. To effectively carry out their role they need to understand the sites that they regulate. Having an in depth understanding of wastewater process and treatment is crucial to any officer in that regulatory role. There is currently no formal national training for our staff that enables them to achieve this level of technical understanding. We will work with CIWEM to develop a training and certification programme that will enable our staff to develop their holistic knowledge of Wastewater management and align the approaches to monitoring and regulation across industry and regulators through individual certification. Utilising CIWEM's position as a Royal Chartered Institution we will create a comprehensive professional course that will deliver competence and confidence to Environment Agency officers. The training will enable officers to achieve an industry recognised certification and also will enable the delegate to apply for professional registration to the institute at Tech CIWEM grade. The key learning outcomes from the training will form the set of industry competencies that the course attendees will become certified against. This will increase competence, consistency, alignment and confidence in water quality monitoring across industry. 'Training' CIWEM will develop a wastewater treatment process training programme the contents of which bring together all the pertinent knowledge of operation and regulation to provide a rounded view of good practice.
