Welsh Language Skills Training

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (the Service) is committed to providing high quality services in both English and Welsh for the communities it serves. As part of this commitment, the Service operates a comprehensive Welsh Language Skills Training Strategy which offers members of staff the opportunity to learn Welsh from scratch or to improve on their existing Welsh language skills. The Service also provides Welsh speaking members of staff with vocational training to enable them to deliver its educational resources in Welsh and with confidence.The Service requires a Welsh language skills training provider who can deliver a range of courses to meet its business needs. This will include:•a ten week introductory course focussing on basic meet and greet skills, answering the telephone and taking basic messages•3 hour reception skills course•Cwrs Mynediad•Cwrs Sylfaen•Cwrs Canolradd•other bespoke courses as identified by the Service on an ad hoc basisThe provider will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing and issuing course books and materials to students. If a student discontinues with the training, then any training materials purchased for that student by the provider will remain the property of the Service.There will also be a requirement for the provider to work with the Service’s Welsh Language Officer to create individual learning plans for students and to return copies of class registers to the Welsh Language Officer immediately after each session. The Service will require a written appraisal of each student’s progress towards their stated targets at the end of each term or course.Course delivery methods will encompass practical exercises in the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing and providers are encouraged to be innovative and forward thinking in their approach to training methodology.
