The new Windermere Steamboat Museum will rehouse a nationally significant historic boat collection on the shores of Windermere in the Lake District National Park. The 2,600m² development includes; Exhibition space for the display of steam launches, motorboats, yachts and other vessels - telling the stories of their construction, owners and use on Windermere; A conservation workshop, where visitors can watch boat builders and apprentices work on the collection which will form a key element of the visitor experience; A learning centre that offers an inspiring programme for visitors of all ages and a café, which overlooks the lake. These buildings are clustered around a Wet Dock, at the heart of the Museum, where boats will be displayed on the water.This advert commences the tender process for the demolition of an existing boat museum building and construction of a new boat museum, with associated facilities including jetties, a boatyard with a slipway, car parking and associated landscaping.New buildings to be constructed are refer to on the site plan contained with the PQQ documents but will include a conservation workshop, main exhibition, reception, learning centre, cafe, wet dock and link corridor.
