Works Contract - National Archives Learning Centre
Descriptions
The National Archives is undertaking a Public Space Programme, redeveloping the public spaces of Q1, its 1977 brutalist concrete archive building in Kew, London. The works being tendered will form a new broadcast studio and supporting spaces on the first floor of Q1 to create a world leading digital learning and production space. The broadcast space and two supporting production studios are to be acoustically separated from the surrounding space with new glazed and solid partitions and attenuation of services. The existing ceilings are to be removed and replaced with the diversion, rationalisation and adaption of existing services. The spaces will require adaption of the existing VAV air conditioning system and additional cooling, with new AV, lighting and power. New linings and soft furnishings will support room acoustics. Existing floor finishes are to be replaced, and new bespoke and proprietary joinery fitted. The adjacent circulation space will form an informal study area with new ceilings, floor finishes and joinery. The works include the conversion of an existing study space into a handwashing and locker area with new drainage, domestic water services, extract ventilation, sanitary ware, joinery, floor and ceiling finishes. The works include mechanical and electrical enabling works to allow for the construction of an adjacent learning space at a future date. The works are within the public areas of the National Archives. The building is open to the public 9am-5pm, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 9am-7pm Tuesday and Thursday, and 11am - 4pm for the first Sunday of each month. The building must remain operational throughout the works. The works area will need to be carefully hoarded to protect adjacent areas from dust and noise. Noisy works that would disrupt nearby reading areas will need to be carried out outside of public opening hours. Estimated Value of Works: £900,000 + VAT Timetable: We aim to award the contract w/c 16th August 2022. Mobilisation and Construction should be completed by w/c 13th February 2023. This will be a restricted procurement, with the five top ranked bidders being invited to participate in the invitation to tender process. Those bidders will be selected using the criteria specified in the attached documentation. Submissions should be sent to procurement@nationalarchives.gov.uk by midday on May 6th.
