The proposed work would stabilise an extensive crenelated parapet (battlement) protecting the edge of a raised terrace on the south east side of the house which overlooks the lough and is an integral part of the architectural composition of the house. The parapet sits on the battered walls which enclose cellars beneath the terrace. A small section of parapet collapsed a number of months ago and an adjoining section has become distorted and is close to collapse. It is essential that repairs are carried out to prevent further loss of historic fabric and to ensure the safety of visiting members of the public.
