Young People Substance Misuse Extended Out of Hours Service

The aim of this programme is to develop an accessible, responsive extended Tier 2 Specialist service for children and young people resident in Bridgend County Borough who are aged 11-18 and under (this definition will be set by the WAG guidance on substance misuse services for children and young people) whose substance misuse is causing them problems. These could include family issues, educational problems, health issues or social issues.The service will provide one to one support to children and young people and their families who are motivated to address their issue in relation to substance misuse including those who wish to engage in harm reduction support or to work towards abstention.The service will be delivered from a number of key identified geographical bases within the borough, identified by the Local Substance Misuse Action Team in order to ensure accessibility in the areas of greatest need.The service will promote accessibility outside of school hours and will be available a minimum of four nights per week (from 5 p.m.) and for at least one day per weekend. The service will be configured to best meet local need The service will be provided on the basis of need not on the criterion of age. Therefore, if a person turns 18 and has needs that can best be met by the continued involvement of a young person’s service, then this is likely to be the most appropriate response as long as this course is not detrimental to the service being offered to other clients. Where the person requires the service of another team or organisation, suitable transition arrangements will be put in place by the provider to ensure continuity of care. The project will require successful provider(s) to work together as a collaborative, with 20 hours of service delivery being split between the providers concerned.
