Young Persons Safeguarding in Sport Service

The overall aim is to ensure the delivery of a focused, high quality children and young person’s safeguarding advisory service to Sport Wales partners and the wider sports sector. Sport Wales has therefore established the following key objectives that must be delivered:1. Support the sports sector, primarily National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBS), to achieve and maintain appropriate safeguarding standards for children and young people, including the provision of expert case management advice;2. Be the voice of children and young people’s safeguarding in sport, with the Welsh Government, National and Regional Safeguarding Boards;3. Pilot a safeguarding consultancy service to non-NGB providers, such as Community Football Trusts, private businesses and other providers of sporting activity, with a view to establishing a more sustainable delivery model;4. Embed safeguarding of young people in the new community sport regional delivery agencies;5. Develop and deliver resources and learning opportunities in response to identified gaps in safeguarding knowledge for NGBS, other partners, staff and volunteers;6. Provide administrative and technical support for the safeguarding strategic group (four meetings per year) along with its working groups - currently Workforce, Advocacy, Adults at Risk and Performance Programmes (approximately 12 meetings per year):7. Work collaboratively with the Adults at Risk contract, initially running for a 12-month pilot, to November 2019.
