BRIEF FOR CONSERVATION ACCREDITED ARCHITECT AND DESIGN TEAM
Descriptions
The NESPT purchased the category B listed, former Clydesdale Bank, at 34 Broad Street, Fraserburgh in February 2020 thanks to a grant from the Aberdeenshire Town Centre Fund. The building had been sitting empty since the Bank closed several years ago. No maintenance had been carried out and the condition of the building was poor, with water ingress causing ceilings to collapse in several rooms. A programme of urgent repairs has been completed and the building is now wind and watertight. The former Bank is attached to the derelict former John Trail Bookshop building at 5 – 13 Mid Street. This building, which also belongs to the NESPT, is about to be refurbished and converted into a small hotel in a 1.3 million GBP project funded by Fraserburgh 2021 and Aberdeenshire Council (work due to start 29 June 2020). The plan is for the former Bank to become a phase two of the hotel development providing an additional seven double, ensuite, fully accessible bedrooms (accessed via a new lift), and extensive bar and restaurant facilities. Draft plans have been produced by EK:JN Architects. The estimated cost of the work is 1 million GBP as at May 2019.
