Central Bedfordshire Council has appointed Tim Buckingham to carry out Langford Meadows Boundary fence o Posts - 1.8m x 125mm x 75mm accurately spaced at 1.8m centres. Where possible posts are to be driven in. Where not possible, holes should be as small as possible and be re-filled with earth and well rammed. o Rails - 3.6m x 100mm x 38mm evenly spaced. Rails are to be butt-jointed on the centre-line of posts. Joints to be staggered. o Strand of high tensile barbed wire to be added at height of xx between top and middle rails o Any exposed ends must be treated with wood preservative. o Nails - 40mm galvanised, where a rail joins or passes a post it must be fixed with two nails 2 nails per rail o Exact line of existing fence to be followed o Tie into existing fences to the north and south Materials o Timber posts must be BS 8417 Use class 4 (in ground contact) with desired service life of 30 years. Certificate of treatment or other documentary proof will be required o If pointed posts are used, treatment must take place after pointed. o Rails - to be treated to BS 8417 Use class 3 o Barbed wire - double strand heavy duty o Nails to comply with BS 729 o Staples - 40mm. Positioned diagonally in grain of wood. Not driven fully home. General 1. Successful contractor is responsible for checking services on site and liaising with the relevant body to accommodate works. 2. Access is via Langford Mill. There is a weight restriction of 2 tonnes. 3. The fence marks the boundary between Langford Meadows (CBC owned) and the riverside land owned by Biggleswade Hitchin and District Angling Association. Consent has been granted by BHDAA to work from the riverbank side. This area is to be left secure at all times, so field gate should be replaced first. 4. There is a public footpath along the BHDAA land. Access to this path must be maintained at all times. Any required closures must be agreed in advance of works and at contractor's own cost. 5. Successful contractor must submit a satisfactory risk assessment prior to works commencing 6. Site and any materials must be left in a safe state at the end of each day and at the end of works 7. Access across Henlow Common and Langford Meadows Local Nature Reserve is unlikely due to wet nature of the site. 8. Vehicle movements to be kept to a minimum, with respect to residents at Langford Mill. 9. Any damage to access route or BHDAA land to be restored at contractor's own cost 10. Works to take place as soon as possible but ideally before June 16th 2024. 11. Working in wet weather should be avoided to minimise damage to ground
