Charter for West of Scotland Herring Survey
Descriptions
Marine Directorate invites a tender from pelagic vessels of overall length greater than 60 m to undertake a 10-day acoustic-trawl survey. The survey will cover two key areas for autumn spawning herring in ICES area 6aN. The vessel will complete prescribed acoustic transects within these boundaries and also fish as requested, in order to collect genetic samples. The charter survey will be 10 days duration between the 3rd September and 13th September 2023. The vessel must depart from a Scottish mainland port. Herring quota is being offered in exchange for 10 days survey time. As compensation for the survey work, Marine Directorate are offering up to: - 272 tonnes of West of Scotland herring quota, to be fished in 2023 - 408 tonnes of North Sea herring scientific quota, to be fished in 2024
