Cardiff Council is committed to building new council homes in order to help tackle housing need. We have been set an initial target of completing 1,000 new council homes by 2022 and to have development programme that will deliver at least 2,000 new council homes in the longer term. Caldicot Road is the first scheme to be delivered through our additional build programme which is aimed at delivering new, quality, energy efficient homes where we most need them.The Caldicot Road site is formed by a vacant land parcel measuring 0.31ha in area, situated off Caldicot Road and to the rear/south of Western Leisure Centre. The site was previously occupied by the Army Cadet Force (ACF) and Air Training Corps (ATC) and all buildings have been demolished.The site is located within an established residential area, with two storey traditional housing located to the south and south-east, at Chepstow Road, Caldicot Road, Haverford Way, Bishopston Road and Newgale Place.The planning permission is for the construction of 16 new build properties, under a JCT contract at Caldicot Road, Caerau. The scheme consists of 6 x 1 bedroom flats, 7 x 2 bedroom houses, 2 x 3 bedroom houses and 1 x 4 bedroom houses. All the properties will need to be built to Welsh Government DQR standards for use as council social rented accommodation.
