The existing Fire Station located in West Norwood is in need of modernisation in order that the London Fire Brigade can adequately respond to the changing requirements of the fire service and enable its firefighters to more efficiently carry out their operational and community fire safety duties. A number of refurbishment proposals for the existing site have been carried out in the past but were not deemed acceptable as the complexity of these proposals and the costs have been made more expensive as a result of the existing station being listed in 2006.The London Fire Brigade has acquired a site for a new fire station and drill tower at 210 Knights Hill, London, SE27 0QA, on the western side of the A215. The site was originally occupied by a two storey disused residential care home which has now been demolished.The London Fire Brigade is seeking to strengthen its community links within West Norwood by developing a Fire Station designed to create an environment for firefighters and to enhance the interaction with the local community through the provision of modern, accessible and welcoming facilities. The new building will also be compliant with current Equalities and safety legislation. Its design will incorporate the latest energy efficiency technologies including renewable energy.The London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority have employed a full design team to complete all RIBA design stages and achieve planning permission. They now wish to employ a Contractor to construct the new fire station and drill tower.The building areas are circa:Ground floor: GEA: 900 m2, GIA: 850 m2First floor: GEA: 840 m2, GIA: 520 m2Roof: GEA 860 m2The building will provide:Space for 3 fire appliancesImproved facilities in accordance with the contracting authority's latest accommodation requirementsImprovements in operational efficiencyApplication of the latest and best principles to achieve the lowest carbon footprintAchievement of a minimum BREEAM rating of 'Very Good'
