Immersive H&S leadership training experience (YPO DPS 999 - Lot 26)

Descriptions

We operate to the ISO 45001 standard for occupational health and safety (OH&S). Nothing is more important to us than the health, safety, and well-being of our colleagues and everyone we work with. As the type and nature of our work continues to evolve, we must continue to ensure that our safety standards and performance remain consistently high wherever we are and whatever we are doing. We must all take personal responsibility for our health, safety and wellbeing, play our part to prevent accidents, and promote positive well-being. To continuously improve our H&S culture and ways of working, we seek new and innovative ways to engage colleagues to equip them to assess and manage the risks they face in their working environments, consistently demonstrate strong H&S leadership behaviours and remain focused on making safe decisions both in the planning and implementation of their activities.

Cefas operates across a diverse range of environments undertaking a breadth of activities, each with distinct H&S considerations.

Scientific Research and Fieldwork
• Includes marine and freshwater science, environmental monitoring, and aquaculture assessments
• Fieldwork often involves working in, on, or near water, handling biological samples, and deploying monitoring equipment
Laboratory-Based Science
• Conducted at Cefas facilities such as Lowestoft and Weymouth laboratories
• Involves handling hazardous substances (COSHH), use of specialist equipment, and adherence to strict lab safety protocols
Vessel-Based Operations
• Work aboard research vessels like the RV Cefas Endeavour, and a range of chartered vessels, includes sampling, equipment deployment, and navigation in challenging marine conditions.
Emergency Response
• Cefas leads initiatives like Premiam, providing scientific support during marine pollution events and other environmental emergencies
The H&S training we already provide
The training Cefas provides is designed to ensure that we are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and awareness necessary to work safely, protect colleagues and others potentially impacted by our work, and minimise environmental risks. Our tailored health and safety training programmes for fieldworkers, those working on and near water, and laboratory staff ensures that our workforce is prepared to work safely and effectively, whatever their environment. By following the hierarchy of risk control, we support our mission to protect both people and the environment.
