Milton Keynes City Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and has set a target to reduce carbon emissions from its internal operations and infrastructure by 2030. As part of this ambition, the Council is exploring innovative on-site energy generation technologies that can reduce reliance on grid electricity, support the decarbonisation of operational assets, reduce long term operational cost of Milton Keynes City Council asset and demonstrate leadership in sustainable infrastructure. The Council is currently assessing the feasibility of installing road embedded kinetic energy recovery systems an example of this is a speed bump style energy generation technology at viable sites where vehicle movements are frequent and predictable. The Council is seeking expressions of interest from organisations that design, supply, install, operate, or maintain kinetic energy recovery systems or alternative technologies delivering similar outcomes capable of generating electricity from vehicle movements. The feedback received will be used to inform an options appraisal, shape future procurement strategy, and test value for money and deliverability.
