Kirkland Mill Lade Heritage Trail - site investigations
Descriptions
The Kirkland Mill Lade runs from the Kirkland Dam at the west of the Methil Garden eastwards through the Burn Mill Garden to the western edge of the Creosote Garden. The Leven Masterplan identified the re-opening of this Lade as a key heritage activity, connecting people to the industrial heritage of the area, linking the Methil and Burn Mill Gardens. This linkage could be further enhanced by a Heritage Trail and associated interpretation. FCCT and SEPA are currently undertaking a feasibility study into the benefits and practicalities of re-opening the Lade. If the study recommends the re-opening of the Lade, this will be taken forward by the River Restoration Project in 2023-2024. The Heritage Trail would be designed and installed via the NLHF Delivery Phase running concurrently. This project is for the site investigations required for Stage 0 (Site Appraisals) RIBA Plan of Work 2020 for the location of the Heritage Trail on readiness for Stages 1-4 in a Delivery Phase (subject to re-opening of the Lade and a successful Stage 2 application to the NLHF, anticipated to be 2023-2027.
