This was a re-procurement to replace Mainframe Micro Processor Requirements which had been classed as end of life. The current Infrastructure Storage requirement was obtained via a competitive tender by SLC reference 2020-SLC-357. The hardware supplied was manufactured by IBM under the manufacturers branding of IBM Power.
As the SLC estate currently has IBM equipment throughout, to move away from this manufacturer would take a vast investment in both time and money. Therefore, for technical and financial reasons, the equipment specification needs to continue with IBM.
