The department plays a crucial enabling role in security and law enforcement operations, supporting the harnessing of cutting-edge capabilities through investment in science and technology to anticipate the emerging technologies of the future. The Home Office has a requirement for next generation capabilities to detect, identify and/or monitor chemical and biological hazardous substances in public and government locations, for safety and security purposes.
