Newport City Council currently has two footfall counters located within the City Centre. The footfall counters are useful in gauging the attractiveness and success of the City Centre. Analysis of the data can focus on a particular day or time of day, so the data is also useful in understanding the success of individual events such as the Newport Food Festival for example.The footfall information is used by multiple teams across the Council as well at the City Centre Business Improvement District. The Planning Policy Team reports on the footfall figures in its Annual Monitoring Report. The Regeneration Team often use footfall figures to justify projects and monitor success. Officers in Corporate Services report the figures as well and the information is provided to the BID, which helps the individual business owners and shopkeepers to monitor footfall, allowing them to monitor trends and plan for the future.
