UCLan is seeking a provider of educational support workers (Non-Medical Helpers) and invites agencies to express interest in providing educational support workers for a range of activities in the classroom and to support students' private study.You will provide a full matching service following referral from UCLan, you will invoice each student's funding body to recoup full costs of service provision, and you will meet all employment legislation regarding individual staff undertaking these activities.The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is a World Class modern teaching and research University with campuses in Preston, Burnley, Westlakes and Cyprus. As such, the University is committed to providing superlative support services for students, including comprehensive support for students with disabilities. The University has an established track record in this area, and annually provides non medical helper support for more than 750 students. In total there are almost 2 000 students at the University with a declared disability.The services, practices and procedures developed over a number of years at UCLan have ensured that students with disabilities are in a position to study effectively, to fulfil their academic potential, thus moving towards creating parity with their peers. Good practice underpins services for UCLan's disabled students, and we pride ourselves on our broad and comprehensive provision.A key factor in the provision of support for students with disabilities is the provision of support workers (also known as non-medical helpers or NMHs), of which there are currently around 200, provided by the current supplier.Students' needs range from note-taking to specialist tuition. British Sign Language Interpreting and specialist Assistive Technology training. For many students, finding the necessary helpers themselves would be an impossible task, causing a good deal of anxiety. In extreme cases, such students would be unable to continue with their chosen programme of study without appropriate support.UCLan plays a key role in supporting students to obtain their Assessment of Need and to secure funding, where available, for their support before making referrals to the supplier of Non-Medical Helper support. The appointed provider will, from this point, provide a full service including recruitment, training and appropriate matching of Support Workers with students, according to their identified needs. The appointed provider will ensure that appropriate quality checks are in place, and that all work is carried out in a timely manner, in order to ensure appropriate levels of support are in place for students when required. The appointed provider will provide assurance reports to UCLan on a regular basis, and will take responsibility for all invoicing to appropriate funding bodies, making appropriate credits and debits to UCLan in accordance with any variances.The provision of a high quality Non Medical Helper Service which is recognised as sector leading is an important part of UCLan's profile as a University which welcomes and supports equality and diversity.
