The proposed project is intended to establish and develop a poultry industry Centre of Excellence, specializing in all aspects of brolier production. The site will consist of 6 state of the art broiler houses with 50,000 birds per house, which will be monitored and controlled by AI, computer vision, sensors, and Cloud based technology for continual monitoring of important data including weights, water and feed consumption, temperature, carbon dioxide, humidity and mortality.The proposed facility will use innovative technologies (AI, Cloud connectivity, Robotics, Sensors, Green Energy) to create a significant improvement in poultry farming practices, in Ireland and internationally. This centre is intended to support and advance the poultry sector and help address and overcome challenges which the industry faces with regard to environmental protection, sustainability, animal welfare and food security and traceability. It is envisaged that this development will become recognized as a poultry centre of excellence for the EU.Key environmental challenges to be addressed will be addressing issues around chicken litter and air quality, to include – nitrate reduction, ammonia emissions reduction and odour control. Technologies will be implemented to eliminate the use of fossil fuels and create a sustainable facility for energy production and usage.
