Swansea University (SU) has a demonstrated ability to translate RD&I processes into commercial products as evidenced by its already established and successful centres - Centre of Nano Health (CNH) and Welsh Centre for Printing and Coating (WCPC) advanced manufacture by print; delivering cost effective highly skilled innovative solutions to companies. The Avenues of Commercialisation for Nano and Micro technologies (ACNM) Operation will add value, building on both Centres’ established credibility in industry, and on their existing networks and in targeting new companies and eligible organisations throughout the East Wales area in an industry demand led approach delivering cost effective highly skilled knowledge transfer to companies, where they do not have facilities or expertise. Adding further value to this will be the collaboration with Cardiff University’s Institute for Compound Semiconductors (ICS), and the collaboration on the ACNM Operation demonstrates commitment of both HEIs’ to Smart Specialization and its benefits to Welsh companies.The ACNM Operation is required to undergo an inception, a mid-term and a final evaluation. The inception evaluation should form the baseline against which progress can be assessed for the mid-term. It is expected that it will be used to develop a theory of change logic model, which will ensure that the data being collected is adequate to be able to evaluate against that model in the mid-term and final evaluations.
