Awarded
Provision of bus hire and drivers for Stonehenge Visitor Transport System.
Descriptions
Stonehenge and the landscape in which it stands is unique, and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS). It is one of the most popular monuments in the country, with more than a million visitors each year. In December 2013 the new visitor centre opened at Airman's Corner, 1.5 miles away from the Stones, and significantly changed the operation of the site. There are 2 types of vehicles that form the visitor transport system (VTS) at Stonehenge. 5 land trains, owned and maintained by English Heritage (EH), transport individual visitors to the Stonehenge Monument. Solo buses are used to transport the majority of group visitors to the Monument and supplement the land trains. The smooth and efficient running of this service is crucial to the successful operation of the site. It is an integral part of the visitor experience and the journey adds value to the visit by offering opportunities for visitors to appreciate the landscape of the WHS. This opportunity is for the provision of buses (Lot 1) and also the provision of drivers (Lot 2). The contract period for both lots will 2 years with the option to extend for a further 1 year.
