NHS Borders requires the provision of dedicated nursing care of a Child suffering from Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome (CCHS). CCHS is a rare disorder of the autonomic nervous system, the part of the nervous system responsible for the control of involuntary muscles i.e. anything which is not consciously directed such as heart beat, renal function and breathing. Breathing is predominantly affected by CCHS. Breathing stops when the Child goes to sleep requiring the Child to be supported with mechanical ventilation by face mask. All Medical care will be provided by NHS Borders/NHS Lothian. To maintain the Child at home NHS Borders requires to put in place a dedicated care provision consumerate with a Health Care Support Worker role. Core duties of this role are as detailed in the attached documentation. In addition NHS Borders will require full case management support in relation to the care provided. Details of the core requirements of the case management support are also appended to this notice. Care provision will be coordinated for NHS Borders by liaison with the Community Children’s Nurse based at Borders General Hospital, Melrose. The contract period will be for a period of 2 years with option to extend for 12 months with a care requirement of dedicated Health Care Support Worker input of 10hrs overnight/365 nights per annum. TUPE Regulations will apply.
