A467 Bassaleg Bridge has recently been found to have severe erosion of concrete bearing plinths. They must be replaced to prevent failure of the structure. The plinths have severely eroded since the last Principal Inspection 11 months ago.
The dual carriageway above will need narrowing to one lane to keep heavy vehicles away from the defect area. there are few competent contractors able to lift bridge decks in order to replace the plinths.
