Service of Sump Pumps at Thames Barrier & Associated Gates

Descriptions

This project relates to the service for all Sump and Sump Pumps on our sites and 1 Macerator pump at KGV. Locations for the pumps on the Thames Barrier site are: north and south generator houses, upriver and downriver tunnels at the base of each pier, downriver tunnel subway, and Interceptor pump on the south shore (fed from the south abutment switch room and remote control sited outside the south abutment local control room). The hi-level alarm control (float) driving an electronic relay is located in the downriver subway on the side of the interceptor tank. The plant alarm is displayed at Level 7 control room. The pier sumps are equipped with 2x Flygt pumps. The control circuit has the facility to select either Duty A or B pump. Surface and foul water sumps are interlinked between Piers and pump fluid from north shore to the south abutment. Care should be taken to ensure that the pumps are isolated on the Pier to be serviced. Start at north abutment for both the surface water pumps and Pier 3 for the foul water pumps in the downriver tunnel. Start at Pier 3 in the upriver tunnel for the surface water pumps. Only the downriver tunnel has foul water pumps. The sump pumps in the generator houses are sited in shallow sumps to dispel water collected from the hydrants or sprinklers, therefore only electrical maintenance and checks of the float switches are required. The pumps perform a vital role in the transfer of surface & foul water from the North side of the Thames Barrier to the South side where it is discharged to the mains. The pumps at Barking Barrier & Dartford Creek Barrier empty the sumps at the bases of the West & East towers. The Macerator pump at KGV Barrier discharges surface & foul water into a sceptic tank. The Thames Barrier is a major piece of UK infrastructure, therefore site security is critical. It is mandatory that contractors coming into EA sites will have to pass a Counter Terrorism Check (CTC). We are seeking to tender for a replacement of service of Sumps, Sump Pumps at TBAG. The service will be carried out in accordance with the OEM, 'Flygt Maintenance Manual. Service of the sumps and pumps are important to ensure the equipment are in working condition and able to transfer surface & foul water discharged to their mains. This is essential to avoid flooded area and foul odours causing environmental pollution. As recommended by the MFG, the equipment must be regularly serviced and have a 4 yearly overhauling with new parts fixed in the pumps to replace the old ones. This is a must to have service contract to ensure the equipment are serviced and maintained regularly to remain functional. All works to be carried out following the Environment Agency's Health and Safety codes of practice and the Thames Tidal Defences Safety Rules. The specification for this contract covers a total of 50 pumps & 25 sumps across 4 locations:- 43 pumps & 25 sumps are situated across the Thames Barrier in both upriver and down river tunnel
