Descriptions
Dublin City Libraries is a section of the Council’s Culture, Recreation & Economic Services Dept. The city’s public library network extends over 21 branches city-wide, serving a population of just over half a million people. The physical infrastructure of branch buildings ranges from purpose built facilities dating from the late nineteenth and early 20th centuries, to rented spaces in shopping centres, to newly designed branch library facilities. The rollout of self-service began in 2010, going live in Pembroke, Raheny and Rathmines libraries. The service was expanded to the Central Library, Ballyfermot and Drumcondra in 2012. The remaining 14 branches went live in 2014.Pembroke Library is scheduled to go live with My Open Library once Covid-19 restrictions allow. This model offers extended opening hours to library members on a self-service basis outside normal opening hours, seven days a week, from 8am to 10pm, 365 days a year. The use of self-service book dispensers will be piloted in 2021.There are currently just over 60 self-service kiosk/units in operation throughout the Dublin City Libraries branch network, most of which we plan to replace.
