Descriptions
The Port of Felixstowe South Rail Terminal has a length of approximately 500m.
Line 3 requires replacement of 460m of rail including the removal and disposal of all rail, timber sleepers and track ballast and replacement with new including the replacement of the timber sleepers with concrete sleepers.
The Works comprise but are not limited to:
Take up existing rails and dispose off site
Take up existing sleepers and dispose off site
Take up existing upper and lower ballast and dispose
Install new lower ballast on PW1 Terram
Install new concrete sleepers and new rail
Install new upper ballast
Tamp and final alignment using universal tamping machine
Install MoT Type 1 footways to 6 foot either side of line 3
Rail Operations run 24/7 6 days a week. It is proposed that the rail panels are assembled off-line in a nearby site compound and the installation works are undertaken over two consecutive 36 hour weekend possessions whereby half of the track is replaced each weekend. The Port will make its rail mounted gantry crane and container reach handler plant available to handle and place sections of built up track during the possession.
