Yate Town Council Peg Hill Skatepark Refurbishment Project

Descriptions

Yate Town Council (YTC) require a supplier to design and build a new skatepark for wheeled sports within the existing Peg Hill Skatepark, to replace through the demolition and removal of the existing skatepark, which has come to the end of its life. Our objective is to create a space for wheeled sports that will offer people of all ages and a range of abilities, access to as wide a range of opportunities as possible. The space should be visually appealing, exciting, challenging and stimulating. We are looking for an innovative design that makes good use of the space and available budget. The design should be suitable for a wide variety of users, including skateboards, skaters, scooters and BMX with a mix of bowl and street features accessible to beginners, while providing interest and opportunity to advanced users. The layout should provide enough distinction between ability to avoid user conflict, whilst maintaining good flow and transfers between different areas. Community engagement has been undertaken with local users and residents, who have identified key themes for features they regard as being essential/desirable from a good skate park. These findings are available on request. Peg Hill Skatepark currently has a surrounding grassed area, but it is not expected that the new skate park will use this area. The skate park area is on a slope and we will be looking for a creative design that works with the gradient and current footprint. The wheeled sports elements could be constructed from concrete or other suitable materials (not metal or wood) which could allow a variety of complementary materials (including recycled / sustainable products), colours, textures. appropriate drainage should be integrated into the design. The supplier is required to carry out the installation of the new skate park in accordance with the best trade practice, ROSPA guidelines and adhere to the British Standards BS EN 14974:2019 Skateparks. The contractor will also need to ensure that all equipment and associated surfaces comply with the prevailing standards, with particular attention paid to providing a park with a long-life cycle of no less than 20 years.
