FS101206 - Development of Quality Control Materials for Food Allergen Analysis

Descriptions

Development of Quality Control Materials for Food Allergen Analysis - The outcomes from this work will support the FSA's strategic aims of Food is Safe and Food is What it Says It Is. They will also support delivery of the agency's Regulating Our Future and Surveillance priorities, as the research outcomes will help the FSA to improve its regulatory activity regarding allergens. This research project will help to ensure that any revisions to the FSA's policy on food allergy, and advice to food-allergic individuals, will be based on the best possible evidence as a data-driven organisation. This will better enable protection of this vulnerable group of consumers, allowing them to make well-informed and safe food choices. The work commissioned here seeks to develop quality control and/or reference materials for food allergen analysis. The outcome of this work should underpin work on allergen management thresholds used to inform enforcement and precautionary allergen labelling decisions for the unintentional presence of allergens in food. The objectives of this specification are to define the specific need for quality control/reference material, commission research to address those needs and develop suitable materials for use by the analytical community.
