The Trustees of the Penllergare Trust wishes to appoint an Activity & Interpretation Planning Consultant to design elements of and support the overall delivery of the Phase 2 National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported project at Penllergare Valley Woods. The Woods are located in the Country Park and Gardens, on the A48 between Penllergare and Llangefelach.This project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF), will enable Penllergare Trust to conserve, restore and re-invigorate the nationally important historic designed landscape, working with the local community and project partners. The project includes partial restoration of the Walled Garden containing a Vinery and Orchid House (both Scheduled Ancient Monuments), and the creation of a new multi-use visitor / retail centre with associated interpretation and staff office accommodation. This will provide opportunities for sustainable income streams to support the long-term management and maintenance of the site.Phase I, supported by the Parks for People National Lottery Heritage Fund scheme, was undertaken to create the currently restoration and park infrastructure. Please see www.penllergare.org.Following on from an NLHF Development Grant award, the Stage 2 Delivery Grant bid was successful and £1,631,700 (79% of the total project cost) was awarded in March 2019. The Trustees now require an Activity & Interpretation Planning Consultant to undertake both landscape planning and detailed landscape design and implementation work. This work is detailed in section 3.0. below.A key element to the Activity & Interpretation Planning Consultant’s role will be a critical assessment of plans to date with regard to the Activity Plan – 2017 – 2022 (Final Report - March 2017). This document outlined the plans with regard to activity and interpretation submitted at the time of the successful NLHF Stage 2 bid. However, since the Stage 2 award was made in March 2019, there have been some changes to both the available budget and the plans for capital work within the project which impact on the Activity Plan as submitted.
