Cambridge Mathematics School Temporary Accommodation

Descriptions

The Department for Education requires a suitably experienced Contractor to express their interest to tender for the Design and Build of temporary accommodation for the provision of a specialist mathematics teaching school in Cambridge. The temporary accommodation should be of suitable quality allowing easy decant of FF&E and ICT equipment to the permanent facility. The building is to be accommodated by Cambridge Mathematics School and provide teaching facilities to 80 sixth-form pupils and 10 FTE staff. The existing building is located at 119 Mill Road, Cambridge, CB1 2AZ. The original building was recently extended and refurbished for the use as a languages school. The property covers the ground, first, second, and third floors, with a total of circa 900sqm. The client requires internal alterations, mechanical and electrical works. The following key items have been identified as required to be undertaken as part of this scheme: 1. Removal and installation of new internal lift and access ramps; 2. Remodelling of existing layouts to suit school requirements; 3. Strip-out and installation to suit new room layouts (including MEP services); this includes 2no. science labs; 4. External works including clearing of vegetation, repair works to roof and brickwork, minor landscaping, and installation of new gates; 5. Provision of FF&E to suit the new room layouts. The target construction programme runs from 03/02/2023 to 20/07/2023. The project is scheduled to be handed over to the school in July 2023 to allow them to use it for outreach activities prior to opening of the school in September 2023. The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). The Contractor will be responsible for developing, agreeing, and finalising the design following client engagement meetings as well as undertaking the overall construction works before handover to the school. The works will be contracted via a two-stage D&B contract. An appropriate Principal Contractor will be appointed under a PCSA to further develop the design, manage any planning / statutory applications required and inform a fixed price for the works. Responses to the ITT will be judged against the evaluation criteria set out in the ITT documentation. A completed PQQ (attached) is to be emailed to Karl Allcoat from all those interested in the scheme by 26 April 2022. Appointment of the Contractor will be the basis of the criteria to be published in the tender documents, and the contract will be awarded on the basis of the following split: Qualitative assessment of 60% and Quantitative assessment of 40%. All eventual tenders must be demonstrated to be under budget as part of the Quantitative assessment, any bids considered over budget will be scored as deficient. Contractors wishing to receive the tender documents for this project should contact Karl Allcoat at the email address below by 4 April 2022.
